Mike has been in the Financial Services industry for over 20 years and works primarily with retirees, executives, and owners of privately held businesses. His years of experience allow him to offer planning from a unique perspective; whether it’s retirement planning, estate planning, business continuity planning, executive benefits planning, or portfolio management. With each client and when appropriate, Mike utilizes a team approach which incorporates the expertise of other advisors and professionals to provide thoughtful and practical financial advice.

Mike’s decision to join Lighthouse Financial Advisors came after he had spent the last six years building his own firm, MC Wali & Associates. His decision to merge his firm into Lighthouse Financial Advisors (LFA) was attributed to two important factors. First; as a solo practitioner, he had concerns about the continuity of services to his clients in the event of an incapacity. Secondly; with the success he has had, he needed to grow his practice but did not want the additional responsibility of managing all that comes with growing: negotiating office leases; hiring, training, and managing staff; setting up and managing systems; etc.

With this merger, he has addressed both concerns. His colleagues in LFA are all experienced planners and are ready to assist or step in as needed in the event of an unforeseen event. An experienced staff is also in place, allowing Mike to focus on the most important job of taking care of his clients.

Mike has earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, the Chartered Mutual Fund Counselor (CMFC), and the Certified Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC) designations from the College for Financial Planning in Denver, Colorado. He also has earned the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) from The American College in Bryn Mawr, PA. Mike attended Montgomery College at Takoma Park and then transferred into the Business School at the University of Maryland in College Park, where he majored in Marketing and Finance.

Mike is originally from Guyana, South America and has lived in the Washington area since 1975. Mike and his wife Angie have been married for over 26 years and have two children – Colin and Lexa. They reside in Mount Airy, Maryland.
